Platform: Nintendo DS
Players: 1-4 (using wi-fi connection for multiplayer)
Release Date: August 8, 2005 (Japan Only)
Description/Gameplay: In this game, similar to Super Smash Bros. and
DBZ Budokai, the main focus is to be the last one standing. Unlike Super Smash
Bros. though, you can knock out the character without making them fly out of the
arena. In relation to DBZ Budokai, the players can be knocked out when their
health bar runs out and you can build up your special attack gauge like you can
build up your Ki gauge in DBZ Budokai. There are over 25 missions you cam
complete and there is also a multi-player mode.
The Koma (souls) are the characters you use to play with. The Koma uses from
1-7 squares of the koma deck at the bottom of the DS screen. The decks have 20
squares (4 squares x 5 squares) for the player to place the koma.
There are three types of koma: help koma, support koma, and battle koma.
Help koma take up one square. They can either give the player a boost or help
them. These koma do not appear on the battlefield.
Support koma take up 2-3 squares. These koma show up on the battlefield for a
brief moment to assist the player by executing an attack, blocking an opponent's
attack/restoring health, and some other actions too.
Battle koma take up 4-7 squares, and these are the ones used used in combat.
The player can switch between koma, kind of like in a tag-team battle.
Players can build and store up to ten koma decks and must contain at least
one help, support, and battle koma to be valid for use in battles. There are
also some pre-existing decks ("default decks") that are already there, but those
decks cannot be changed. You can exchange decks between your friends, but they
cannot edit those decks.
Ally boosting is done when koma are placed next to each other in the deck
maker. If they are compatible with one another, their attributes will increase.
Battle characters can get a longer health bar or have a higher maximum number of
special attack gauges.
Characters: There are way too many to list all of them, but the many
characters that are in this game are all featured in the Shonen Jump manga
magazines.
There is going to be a sequel to this game that will be called "Jump Ultimate
Stars" and will be released towards the end of 2006!
